Vaccines and Autism

If you have read some of my other posts I will go ahead and say that my daughter is not Vaccinated which tells you the basic answer in my opinion. I absolutely believe that vaccines are affecting the genetic make up of our children. (I will put these all in the same group so if interested please read the others in this group.)

Lets begin with establishing a base understanding of Autism. Wikipedia defines Autism as "a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication and causes restricted and repetitive behavior, all starting before a child is 3 years old." This is a disorder that is publicly being noted at a rate of 1 in 150. I recently wrote a hub on this, click here to read, but the synopsis is that the numbers are actually closer to 1 in 67. This is a very scary statistic.

Now something that people are not addressing is the fact that these children will have issues for the rest of their lives. Often times the child is born "normal" which is where the major debate comes into play. Mental afflictions of this caliber are not something that come up out of no where in these numbers. They are calling Autism an "epidemic" striking our society.

Lets take a moment and go back to Wikipedia for the definition of an epidemic: A classification of a disease that appears as new cases in a given human population, during a given menstrual period, at a rate that substantially exceeds what is "expected," based on recent experience.

Now here is my summation statement (in the middle because I am just that way), I cannot find anywhere in any study how it is possible to have a genetic epidemic. SOMETHING is causing this, or a combination of somethings.

The major population that steadfastly refuses to address the correlation between the vaccine increase and the increase in the rate of Autism generally stand behind the following stances: 1. Children have received vaccines for years and they protect us from life threatening diseases. 2. Doctors would not tell us we need them if we didn't. 3. You have to be vaccinated to get into schools so they must know something. And my favorite 4. There are no studies that back up the statement that vaccines and Autism are related.

Lets address each of these in turn shall we?

1. Children have received vaccines for years and they protect us from life threatening diseases. As this request brought up, the increase in the vaccines is the question. Not just saying Vaccines have been given for years. The request specifically stated: "In 1993 children were receiving 10 vaccinations a year. Autism was 1 in 5000. In 2007 children in the US are receiving 36 vaccinations a year. Autism has risen to 1 in 150." Those figures on the vaccines are absolutely accurate and the Autism ratio is low in my opinion. How can these not be related?

My mother has been a teacher for over 30 years and 30 years ago there was no such thing as Autism. Nor was there ADD. A little side note ADD was labeled by the pharmaceutical company that created Ritalin. They went to the doctors and told them that the children were suffering from ADD and Ritalin could correct it. Hence the jump in that diagnosis! This will have relevance later as well.

As for protecting us from life threatening diseases I think that quite a bit of that is scare tactic by the pharmaceutical companies and the doctors to get us to get the vaccinations. A little known fact is that they really don't know that vaccines are doing a darn thing. That is why you can get a tetanus shot one day, and if you step on a nail the next they will give you another one. Why would they do that if the one you got yesterday was proven to work?

Polio is another large one they use to scare us. Polio was on a decline prior to the vaccine introduction (another little known fact). Changes in life and hygiene have cleared out quite a few of the diseases they vaccinate against now.

2. Doctors would not tell us we need them if we didn't. Having worked in the medical field myself this makes me laugh. I worked in chronic pain for a year until I could no longer take that they were not addressing the illness or injury they were only concerned with how many medications they could prescribe so they could get the next bonus from the pharmaceutical company.

I have stated previously that we did not vaccinate our daughter. Due to this we have had a very hard time finding a Pediatrician who will see her. Why? They can't make any money off her. She is healthy, happy, well adjusted, and the times we have gone to health fairs they have told us she is one of the healthiest they have seen.

Another case of Doctors trying to give our daughter something she did not need was the eye drops they wanted to give her at birth. They told us over and over that if we did not give her these drops that she could go blind "from the bacteria in the birth canal." I had done extensive research on this prior to her birth and the reality is that the drops ONLY protect against Syphilis. If you don't have Syphilis, they do NOTHING. So I asked the hospital staff why they would do this and not test me first. The quote from the hospital staff, "it is not cost effective." They get over $200 per eye for giving those drops, to test me they get less than $20 so they chose to subject the children to the eye drops!

3. You have to be vaccinated to get into schools so they must know something. I love this one too! Let me make this very clear and I am not sorry if I yell, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE VACCINATED TO ATTEND SCHOOL! They want us to believe this because the school system gets money from the pharmaceutical companies for the children who have been vaccinated. The reality is that this, we do still have religious freedom in this country. It is one of the things we are founded on, and why Christianity is often shunned anymore but that is another hub.

Now you DO have to register your child as unvaccinated. This is actually not a hard process. You just have to go down to the department of health and get an exemption form.

Now the comment that kills me with this (and my mother even said it to me), "but you put all the other children at risk." This is the totem statement of why you need to vaccinate. Lets think for a moment here... If the vaccine actually worked how in the world could an unvaccinated child put a vaccinated child in danger?

And my favorite 4. There are no studies that back up the statement that vaccines and Autism are related. This one is the kicker of them all. To understand this statement you have to understand the licensing procedure for doctors. Doctors are constantly doing continuing education and their licenses are renewed continuously. If the state licensing board decides that you should not be re-instated your license is no longer valid.

Is anyone seeing where I am going with this? All of the research to be considered "valid" has to be done by a licensed doctor. The licensing board does NOT have to give a reason for not re-instating a license, and the doctors doing this research against vaccines are taking on multi-billion dollar corporations. It really does not take much to ensure that a doctor is discredited if someone or better said some group wants to.

While some will call me a death marcher etc, the fact of the matter is this, I worry every day about the diseases my daughter may catch due to the fact she is not vaccinated. Still I look at the odds of every disease she may catch and I go, the odds are 1 in millions if not more, the odds of Autism are 1 in 150 in the advertised documents and one of the major things that has changed is the increase in vaccinations. We have proof from last years flu season that the vaccines are not convincingly accurate... why should I believe others are any better?

Another point I keep in mind is the fact that over 80% of pediatricians won't vaccinate their own children. This tells me something...

Honestly with everything I have written, you will notice I never once brought up Mercury. Mercury is the least of my concerns with vaccines. If you look at my hub on vaccine ingredients it is a listing of some of what is in the vaccines, and while Mercury is bad, look at the others!

The problem is that I believe we are bypassing the body's immune system. We are supposed to be exposed to things like the flu and chicken pox as our body's way of learning how to deal with bacteria and disease. We are bypassing this and the theory of vaccines is not to make you immune to something, it is to increase your antibodies so when you come in contact with it again you already have some to help fight. The problem is that our bodies come into contact with these things at different times in our lives.

Hepatitis B is a prime example we generally come in contact with that (if ever) when we become sexually active. Now they want to vaccinate our children within 30 minutes of birth. Seriously how much are they coming into contact with at this point in their life? If you have Hepatitis B then by all means help all you can with the vaccine, otherwise why?

The influx of these antibodies in our children's bodies at such a young age is a part of the problem I believe from the research I have seen. Another is the ingredients (all the ingredients, not just the threat of Mercury). And yet another is the fact that we are depending so much on the medical community we are suppressing every response our body has to anything because it is uncomfortable.

OK I am done with my rant for now, please feel free to let me know your thoughts! I constantly look at this and try to find different views or something I have missed on my own. The simple reason for me to chose not to vaccinate was personal experience with friends who had children born "normal" until after a round of vaccinations, the fact I have met adults who have never been vaccinated and they are fine even with significant travel, and I saw a significant difference in the development of friends children who were vaccinated vs. unvaccinated.
